On March 13, 2012, Robert Prieto, was named as a member of The National Academy of Construction (NAC) in Austin,TX. Prieto’s NAC election citation noted his “distinguished career as a leader, innovator, published author, and engineer”. He has contributed broadly and richly throughout the industry with over 375 publications and speeches. He has served as a Senior Vice President of the Fluor Corporation, a publicly owned engineering, procurement, construction, and maintenance services organization since 2004.

Martin and his wife are both retired now for several years and have been residing in their newly acquired home near Oneonta, NY. Martin’s career as a professional actuary involved the actuarial aspects of employee benefit plans, primarily in the field of pensions and retirement plans. His wife was also engaged in the same field.

Judea A. Pearl

On March 29th, 2012, Professor Judea Pearl will receive the Harvey Prize in Science and Technology from the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology. Professor Pearl teaches Computer Science at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). It has been said that “his theories for inference under uncertainty, and most notably the Bayesian network approach, have profoundly influenced diverse fields such as artificial intelligence, statistics, philosophy, health, economics, social sciences, and cognitive sciences”.

Judith feels that she is lucky because she had her nursing profession to fall back on during the “job crisis”. She works for a major insurer and will be retiring next year. Judith has been a widow for about 11 years now. She would like to hear from the professors and classmates of the ’84 “batch”.

Khawaja Daud Masud

Khawaja Daud Masud feels that he has been blessed with a happy, contented, healthy life with a good life partner, Rubina, elder son Saud Masud, younger son Omer Masud, both Bankers on Wall Street and precious Grand children, Ryaan Saud (Ranoo), Minal Omer (Mino) and Anaya Omer(Anoo). Mr. Masud is residing in Islamabad, Pakistan and running his own small construction company with his younger brother Kh Saad Masud.

Mr. Masud feels God has been very kind to him and he has accomplished everything he desired and earned a good name in his profession and society.

Currently he is a Sr. Global Quality Engineer/Project Lead at Honeywell with responsibilities of leading projects and teams utilizing six sigma and lean manufacturing applications.

Dr. Thomas J. Bruno has been honored with a Choice Outstanding Academic Title Award for the third edition of his book: Basic Tables for Chemical Analysis, published by CRC Taylor and Francis.

John E. La Scala has been retired from Grumman Corp. (now Northrop Grumman) for over 21 years. He and his wife Lily have been on more than 39 Caribbean cruises. John has also been a golfer at his club since 1998.

Dr. Jay Kappraff still teaches mathematics at NJIT. He is the director of a forum on technology and society. Dr. Kappraff's daughter Sara has ended a successful ballet career and is entering medical school in Sept. at UMDNJ.
